It's a new school year and it's time to get geared up for Dean. There really isn't that much time before caucus, and it's going to fly by like no tomorrow. If you'd like to help with this blog or the webpage (www.iowafordean.org) with any of your (rants/thought/web design) please contact me (Jon) the coordinator. Your efforts will be put to good, and immediate, use in our critical first caucus state.

I just wanted to post that I'm always impressed and amazed at some of the people I meet that are also trying to get Howard Dean elected. It's so uplifiting to see so many great people who are so dedicated to this cause. I'm hopeful that it will be worth it in the end.
It also appears that August 14th will be the day to attend the Iowa State Fair from 3-5, not confirmed, is a presidential candidate forum on Health Care. It'd be great to have a huge crowd for Dean. Details will be posted to iowafordean.org when known.

You can also listen to Iowa City supporters of Dean that aired on NPR's "The Connection". Try this link:
http://realserver.bu.edu:8080/ramgen/w/b/wbur/connection/audio/2003/07/con_0717a.rm
Or go to www.connection.org and listen to the 7/17/03 show, it's at the beginning of the first hour.

I just got back from hearing Dean speak at a rally in Cedar Rapids. Our days of having a small-time candidate whom we could converse and discuss issues with (at great length) seem to be over. (That's good). There were easily 350 people that packed the upstairs section of Muddy Waters to hear Dean speak. This is one of the largest turnouts for Dean in Iowa (and certainly more than any other candidate)! It was a great way for, at least me, to re-invigorate my enthusiasm for Dean!

To all who view this blog,
I must apologize for the lack of posts here and to the webpage. It's summer and summer brings vacations. Yeah, that's 2 vacations, within 4 weeks of each other. Work on the site has been delayed somewhat. The trade-off: I'll be around for the rest of the summer hard at work on the site and new content. I'm very excited about this. What's all this work you ask? One word: interviews. In the meantime, enjoy the forth and the rest of the opening of July and look back here and the site because there's a lot more to come.

Well...I just got back from the parade in North Liberty for Fun Days. The Dean contingent was about 16 people (not too shabby), Kucinich had 4-5, and Edwards had one by my count. We were the only ones big enough to march by ourselves, the rest banded together as a group. We chanted, and made a lot of noise as well - just being typical Dean supporters. There were some really enthusiastic people in the crowd! I was pleasantly surprised. Best line of the night goes to a little girl who saw us and said, "That's the Democrat, now who's the Republican?" I don't care how young she is, sign her up!

The Vilsack family picnic should be noteworthy for Dean supporters. This is event will be attended by 200-500 people, all democrats (or most of them anyway), and many (because it's Iowa) are undecided. Dean supporters can make a big impact on LIKELY caucus goers at this event. The cost for the event is $25, check the mainpage for all the details. We NEED to PACK this event.

Thank you for all who showed up at the Harkin forum in Davenport! Meeting people from four other states outside while cheering for Dean always reminds me why I'm helping this campaign. There was a lot of ideas for the website discussed, lots of Flash, interviews, media, issues and press releases. It's going to be one busy summer! If you're available and willing to help with the main page, let me know, any and all help is appreciated!

Funny, I didn't know I was elitist. It can't be from my love of good food and a bottle of good wine. Maybe you are too, read all about it and the DLC's comments at the main page and the blog.

There was thought of a bus trip from Cedar Rapids to Mt. Vernon to Iowa City and then on to Davenport for the forum with Harkin. The bus trip has been nixed, instead there will be carpooling. In Iowa City, meet at TGIFriday's at 11:30, or a little before, and we'll carpool from there. Directions and info for the event in Davenport is on the Iowa web site.
